Water Lily Flower Wont Open. They are winter hardy in zones 5 to 9. Lilies and lotus open in the morning with the sun and close part way through the day.
If animals damage the bulbs the lilies will fail to grow or bloom. Some hardy water lily flowers change color shades over the life of the bloom. Keep the lilies away from direct sunlight but place them near a window so they get plenty of light.
