If sowing directly into the ground sow on the surface and rake very lightly it is not critical to cover all the seed. The flowers retain their shape and color when dried and are grown for the dried flower market. My DW is anxious to seed flowers and veggies and is asking for a higher min temp - something closer to 50.
Plant the strawflowers outdoors when all danger of frost has passed.
The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22C. Do not cover the seed but press into the soil. Seed should germinate 7-14 days with sufficient moisture. Mix seeds with moistened peat moss and place in plastic bag.
