Interestingly the cherry blossom is considered the national flower of Japan and is known as Sakura in Japanese. Cherry blossoms bloom during the springtime and wither and die within two weeks of their blooming. When cherry blossoms are in bloom people will celebrate.
However there is a darker side to the beautiful pink and white flowers too.
After their too-short bloom the cherry blossom falls to the ground and is scattered about by wind and rain. Here cherry blossoms are renowned and viewed as a symbol of good times. The sakura was used as a nationalistic symbol in propaganda during World War II but the flower has recovered a better reputation since that point. This flower can be used to represent life after illness or to honour a lost love.
