Celosia sometimes called cockscomb dazzles with its feathery plumes and bright sunset inspired colors in red pink purple orange and yellow. Stems and leaves. It reaches a maximum height of 4 m 13 ft The type specimen was collected by John Xantus from Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur in 1859 and described by Asa Gray in the Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences Volume 5 published in 1861. It blooms in red yellow pink white and orange.
