Bee Balm Flower Buds. This hard-working member of the mint family attracts butterflies hummingbirds and bees. The bee balm usually responds with a flush of new growth and flower bud production although this second flowering is not as lush as the first.
Still the plants annoying predisposition to powdery mildew often makes it an eyesore in the garden. It can be grown in partial sun but it wont bloom as happily as it does in full sun. It may be due to one of a number of reasons.

Given its height 2-4 feet bee balm makes for an excellent background plant in a pollinator garden. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in rich well-draining soil.
